Modernising plants without having to shut them down !

UPGRADE S5 to S7

A newly developed compact system allows plants to be modernized by replacing their S5 controls with S7 controls. This upgrade is even possible without the need to shut down production. Our system helps reducing costs and makes them calculable.

What does SIEMENS say?

This is to announce the gradual phase-out of the SIMATIC S5 system, starting on October 1, 2003. You will find the exact schedule below. The reasons for this measure are that it is becoming more and more difficult to find suitably priced and technically matching electronic components for the nearly 20-year old S5 system. Apart from that, more than 90 % of ordered CPUs to-day are already SIMATIC S7 products. The supply of SIMATIC S5 products will be discontinued in long steps. To provide customers with accurate data for their planning, Siemens has devised the following schedule:

  • The mini PLCs S5-90U, S5-95U/F, S5-100U will be phased out as per 1.10.2003.
  • The affected products will then be removed from the catalog and the Mall, but will remain available on a regular basis for one more year, i.e. until 30.9.2004.
  • The S5-115U system will be phased out as per 1.10.2004
  • The large S5-135/155U systems will be phased out as per 1.10.2005
  • One year later each product will then reach spare part status and remain available in this form for 9 more years (with higher prices).
